For the numerous challenges facing the country to be effectively addressed, Nigerians have been called upon to rally support for all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abayomi Sheba, made the call in Abuja on Tuesday, when he submitted his nomination form at the headquarters of the party in Wadata House. He said that Nigeria and indeed Nigerians have suffered so much under the present government and the government seemed to have run out of ideas on to how to navigate the nation out of this mirage of problems.
Sheba noted that PDP has the capacity to take the nation out its present woes if given the chance to come to power once again. He was the Chairman of the House Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Community Development between 1999 and 2003 in the House of Representatives.
“Nobody is happy with what we are going through in Nigeria today. There is high level of insecurity, poverty, unemployment and inflation. The rich people have not even been spared of this, as they appeared to be the targets of kidnappers. Nigeria is no longer save for anybody and we cannot continue in this direction. There must be a change of tactics and direction if we must move on as a nation that is serious with development and growth”, Sheba, who is seeking a re-election into the House of Representatives to represent Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency of Ondo State, said adding that Nigeria needed seasoned and experience hands to move her out of the present predicament.
“What Nigeria is facing now requires competent and seasoned hands, particularly in the area of lawmaking. It is not those who can just throw money around and get elected and when they get there, they would be sleeping or would not be able to contribute to debates that can move the country forward. We need those who have been tested and trusted. Those with deep knowledge of the workings of Nigeria are those needed at this time to take the country out of its present sorry state.
“Our farmers can no longer enter their farmlands. We cannot move freely in our own land. Our youths have taken to ritual and yahoo yahoo as big businesses. This is a because they are not gainfully employed or are not employed at all. How do we get out of all these? The answer lies on you Nigerians in the coming general elections. There is a big and credible alternative for you, which is the PDP. The APC appears tired and have been exhausted in all their ideas about how to address these issues”, Sheba, who was accompanied to the PDP secretariat by hundreds of his supporters said.
