Political tension, as observed by The Guardian, has intensified within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State following a directive from the 16-member State Caretaker Committee ordering members of the dissolved State Working Committee (SWC) to vacate the party’s state secretariat or face possible legal action.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Falack Victor, said the directive was rooted in legality and not motivated by intimidation or blackmail.
“Occupying the state secretariat of the party after your lawful dissolution amounts to illegality, and the law frowns at such acts,” the statement read.
Dr. Victor stressed that no individual is above the law, regardless of status, and urged party members to support the committee’s efforts to rebuild and reposition the party in the state.
“We humbly invite all party members to join hands with us to strengthen this great party rather than resorting to cheap blackmail against the national body,” he said.
The directive, follows a February 24, 2026 press release by the dissolved SWC, which described the Caretaker Committee as an “unrecognized body with no constitutional standing within the party” and accused it of spreading misinformation.
Responding to the claims, Dr. Victor maintained that the Alhaji Abdulraman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee is legally recognized and properly constituted.
He cited a Federal High Court ruling delivered in Ibadan by Justice U.N. Agomoh on January 30, 2026, which nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025.
According to him, the court declared all decisions taken at the convention invalid and affirmed the National Caretaker Committee as the only lawful body authorized to manage the party’s affairs.
The court, he said, also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the committee accordingly.
Addressing what he described as misinformation within the state chapter, Dr. Victor said the caretaker committee’s mission is to restore order, unity and stability in the Taraba PDP, not to undermine any individual.
He called on members to refrain from factional activities capable of deepening divisions within the party.
The chairman also commended the PDP’s national leadership, particularly Nyesom Wike and Alhaji Abdulraman Mohammed, for entrusting the committee with the responsibility of steering the party’s affairs in Taraba State.
Dr. Victor further appealed to members who may have resigned due to what he termed misinformation to return to the PDP, assuring them of inclusiveness and a renewed commitment to party unity.
