A presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prof. Jerry Gana, and the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) have kicked against the emergence of Donald Duke as the candidate of the party in the 2019 presidential election.

A presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prof. Jerry Gana, and the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) have kicked against the emergence of Donald Duke as the candidate of the party in the 2019 presidential election.

Gana and MBF alleged that the process through which Duke emerged the party’s flagbearer violated the constitution of the SDP. On October 7, 2018, the former Governor of Cross River state polled 812 votes to beat Gana, who polled 611 votes during SDP’s national convention held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.

Gana, unsatisfied with the results from the convention, has approached a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to seek the nullification of Duke’s emergence as the presidential candidate.

However, due to the indisposition of the presiding judge, Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, the matter which was slated for mentioning yesterday was stalled.
The court will resume sitting on November 13 to hear the matter.
