Whoever wants to become Nigeria’s President in 2023 must show capacity and competence to advance the course of President Muhammadu Buhari’s infrastructure initiatives, particularly roads, rail and agricultural programmes.

A group, Buhari Legacy Continuity Initiative (BLCI), which made the assertion yesterday, in Awka, Anambra State, said it has come up with a set of conditions to support any Igbo candidate aspiring to succeed President Buhari.

Speaking during the inaugural steering committee meeting of BLCI, Anambra State chapter, at MayRose Hotel Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Council, the coordinator, Ozo Sam Osita Oraegbunam, said the Buhari presidency has focused on issues that are at the core of Igbo ideology and entrepreneurial drives

Oraegbunam, who addressed the group’s coordinators from the 21 council areas of the state, noted that BLCI emerged as a platform for the advocacy of Igbo Presidency and the consolidation of the impressive multi-sectoral development programmes of President Buhari.

Oraegbunam disclosed that within the past five years the Buhari administration focused on the rehabilitation of roads and other critical infrastructure in the Southeast geopolitical zone, stressing since after the war such comprehensive attention has never been given to the region.

Commending the 21 local government coordinators, the Anambra State Coordinator, who was the Anambra State governorship candidate of Hope Democratic Party (HDP) for the 2017 gubernatorial poll, charged the local government coordinators of BLCI to ensure that the search for President Buhari’s successor is dependent on those parameters.

His words: “Buhari Legacy Continuity initiative, is a brand new formidable movement that serves as a platform for the advocacy of Igbo Presidency and the consolidation of the impressive multi-sectoral programmes of Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, especially as it concerns Nd’Igbo.

“It is part of our responsibilities, therefore, to ensure that as many politicians have started showing interest in succeeding the President, we identify those with integrity, capacity and vision to continue with infrastructure development and drive for food security.”

Oraegbunam praised the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, for the ongoing efforts to operationalize the Onitsha Inland Port and the revitalization of the Eastern Ports.

“The Minister has brought the experience from his eight years as governor of Rivers State to bear on the socio-economic development Nigeria’s transportation industry, particularly the modernization of our port systems,” the BLCI boss stated.

He however pleaded with President Buhari to consider the inclusion of an East to West rail line in his expanded rail transportation master plan for the country, even as he urged Nigerians, especially Nd’Igbo to join hands with BLCI in sustaining the president’s mandate of integrated national development.
