The Minority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Princewill Amuchie, and his deputy, Clinton Amadi, have resigned their positions in the assembly.

Consequently, the duo defected from their political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Before their resignations and defection on Thursday, Amuchie, representing Aboh Mbaise Constituency, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Amadi, representing Owerri Municipal, was elected on the Labour Party (LP) platform. They were subsequently appointed Minority and Deputy Minority Leaders, respectively.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Chike Olemgbe, who read their resignation letters and defection notifications during plenary on Thursday, cited the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as the key reason for their decision to join the ruling party.

With the development, the APC, which is the ruling party in the state, has all the seats in the assembly.

The Guardian learnt that after the announcement of their resignations and defections, their colleagues embraced them with applause and songs of cheers.

Speaking later, the defectors expressed their happiness and pledged their commitment and loyalty to their new political tent.
