INEC issues Edo gov-elect, deputy certificates of return
• Tinubu receives Okpebholo, APC govs in Aso Villa
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates of return to the Edo State Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, and his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
The event, which was held at the INEC Headquarters, yesterday, was graced by dignitaries including the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Senator Adams Oshiomole and some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
INEC’s National Commissioner of Edo State, Rhoda Gumus, presented the certificates to Okpebholo and his deputy. The electoral umpire had declared Okpebholo as the winner of the Edo State governorship election.
The returning officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, announced that the APC candidate secured 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) with 22,763 votes.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, received the Edo Governor-elect, Okpebholo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Okpebholo was accompanied by Ganduje, and some of the governors elected on the platform of the party, among them were the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma, (Imo), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Usman Ododo (Kogi) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).
Also on the entourage was the Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Oshiomhole, and the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
