Iragbiji PDP leaders react as ex-Osun senator dumps party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 01, Iragbiji, Osun State has formally acknowledged the resignation of former Osun Central Senator and ex-chairman of the Governing Council of the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, Felix Ogunwale.

The development was addressed during a special ward congress convened on Monday by party leaders and stakeholders in Boripe Local Government. The Ward 01 PDP Chairperson, Taibat Oladimeji, whose remarks were delivered by Abayomi Adegoke, said Ogunwale’s exit from the party came as no surprise and was considered “a relief,” pointing to his lack of participation in party affairs over the past year.

“The special ward congress affirmed that the exit of Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale (Jumokol) from the party was a relief for us at the ward and local government level because he has not participated in any party activities for about a year and we have filled the gap long before now,” Oladimeji said.

She added that the ward leadership had resolved to formally inform the PDP leadership at the state and national levels of their position.

Reaffirming their commitment to the PDP and the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Oladimeji said, “All of us, the ward leaders, the party executives and members, remain faithful, steadfast, undeterred and resolute to uphold our party, keep the flag flying and give victory to our party in all future elections.”

The congress also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Adeleke and praised what they described as his effective performance across sectors, particularly projects being implemented in the Boripe Local Government Area.

According to Oladimeji, the support of the party leadership for the governor has ensured a smooth relationship between the ruling party and the state government.

She further pledged the continued loyalty of the party members in Ward 01, assuring Adeleke of their backing in upcoming elections.

In a resignation letter addressed to Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, and Governor Adeleke, Ogunwale cited “personal growth and sincere commitment to the welfare of his people” as reasons for his departure from the party. The letter was shared with journalists by the ward leadership.
