Jimoh Ibrahim’s counsel withdraws from case
The counsel to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim, J. A. Badejo, has announced his withdrawal from representing him at the ongoing suit at the Court of Appeal.
Badejo asked for the leave of the court to return the case file to his client. This is the second time that his counsel would withdraw from the case.
He said: “This is my 36th years in practice, I have to protect my integrity. Therefore, I plead with the court to adjourn the matter to enable me to return the case file to my client.
“I don’t really enjoy the environment, so I have to leave. I have looked at everything dispassionately and I know that God is watching us, since I have my integrity to protect.”
But, Eyitayo Jegede’s counsel, Wole Olanipekun, urged the court to reject the application for adjournment. He said: “This is my 41st year in the practice and the 21st as a member of the inner bar. But, this is the first time I am hearing a counsel asking for an adjournment to allow his client to brief another lawyer to move his motion.”
Olanipekun urged the court to “strike out the application for adjournment because a party that is not on record cannot hold the court to ransom.”
The Chairman of the panel, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa ruled that the application by Ibrahim to join in the appeal at the appellate court “is hereby struck out.”
Meanwhile, the Ali Modu-Sheriff’s faction of the PDP, which Ibrahim belongs to, has filed a motion at the Supreme Court to stay action on all proceedings before the Court of Appeal. No date, has however, been fixed for the hearing.
