‘Aiyedatiwa not playing politics with N73,000 minimum wage payment’
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved a new minimum wage of N72,000 for civil servants, with effect from this month, in line with his administration’s commitment to advancing workers’ interests, just as he launched free transport buses in the state.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press, Mallam Ibraheem Musa, the decision is in line with “the advancement of the interests of workers and improvement in the living conditions of the poor, vulnerable and underserved in Kaduna State.”

The statement also stressed that the decision “also aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s life-long commitment to the promotion and protection of workers’ rights, enhancement of their welfare, and caring for the poor and weak.”

“Additionally, Governor Uba Sani is set to launch a free transportation scheme for civil servants with the release of 100 CNG buses,” it added.

HOWEVER, Ondo State Head of Service (HoS), Bayo Phillip, has restated that the N73,000 minimum wage approved for workers by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was not done for political patronage.

While emphasising that there is no going back in the payment of the new wage, the HoS revealed that the recruitment of teachers had been concluded.

Philip, who stated this while briefing newsmen on this year’s commemoration of the Public Service Week, stressed that the state’s wage bill was N4.8 billion.

He said: “Minimum wage is not a political thing. Politics will come and go, and it will outlive elections. Our governor has given his commitment, no going back.”
