Ahead of 2027 general elections, Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Michael Auta, has stepped down for the immediate past Senator Danjuma La’ah of the Kaduna South Senatorial District for a return to the Senate.
Auta, who had earlier nursed senatorial ambition, announced his decision to step down in support of La’ah during a meeting with party stakeholders and support groups such as, Ward-2-Ward Frontiers, in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Southern Kaduna.
Besides, La’ah, who represented Kaduna South in the Senate between 2015 and 2023, is seeking a return to the National Assembly, citing persistent calls from constituents urging him to recontest.
La’ah is expected to challenge the incumbent Senator of Kaduna South Zone, Sunday Marshall Katung during the APC primaries in the State.
Speaking at the meeting, Engr Auta said his decision to step down was informed by the need to consolidate on the gains recorded during La’ah’s previous tenure in office.
He commended the former Senator for attracting federal projects to the district and expressed confidence in his ability to further advance development in the area. He also cautioned the electorates against trading their votes for short-term benefits, urging them instead to support leaders capable of delivering sustainable progress.
He, however averred that should his preferred candidate, La’ah is no longer interested, he would come fully into the race, noting that no amount of inducement would suppress his voice from advocating for the betterment of the region.
Addressing supporters, La’ah said his aspiration was driven by a desire to provide experienced and selfless leadership capable of addressing the challenges confronting Southern Kaduna.
He emphasised that unity among the people remains critical to achieving meaningful development in the zone, noting that his previous tenure had equipped him with the capacity and experience required for effective representation.
According to him, leadership should be anchored on commitment, competence and a proven track record of service.
He urged the electorate to allow past performance to guide their choices in the coming elections.
The meeting which was attended by Party stakeholders, supporters, media team as well as women groups in Southern Kaduna.
They aimed at promoting and Strengthening the Unity of the party and Mobilizing support for President TINUBU/UBA reelection, inline with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event also featured the presentation of awards of excellence to La’ah by two women political groups in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the development of Southern Kaduna.
