LAGOS State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the victory of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos State Election Tribunal.

The party described the ruling as a confirmation of the massive support, which the governor and the party received from the masses during the April 11 governorship elections.

The party’s Spokesman, Mr. Joe Igbokwe while reacting to the ruling, said it did not come as a surprise because the citizens voted for good governance and continuity.

Igbokwe said the Tribunal verdict remains a huge testimony that Lagosians know their leaders and their leaders know them.

According to him, “The PDP did everything to take over Lagos including setting one ethnic group against the other, dishing out millions of money to induce electorate, unleashing ethnic militias like the Oodua Progressives Congress (OPC), deploying security agencies, SURE-P outlaws, and others to harass and intimidate the people just to make them succumb and surrender Lagos but to no avail.”

He said the PDP failed because there was no meeting point between it and the people, no meeting point between the serious and the unserious. “The ruling APC has fraternize with the people of Lagos through its lofty programmes and developmental agenda in the last 16 years. It is not easy, if not impossible for a party like the PDP, to oust a performing party like the APC that has taken Lagos to greater height since 1999. There is no meeting point between performers and non performers.”

Igbokwe further said that Lagos has always been in the hands of progressives’ since it was created in 1967 and it will continue to remain in the hands of progressives for a long time to come. “Progressives will continue to strive for greater heights in raising standards, not only in Lagos, but the whole of Nigeria,” he said.

While he called on the people of the state to continue to support Governor Ambode, the APC spokesman added that the Lagos APC rejoices with the governor for this resounding victory “we urge him to seize the moment, keep the ground running, and move with frightening speed to continue the good work he has been doing in the center of excellence now that the needless distraction at the tribunal has been kept in abeyance.”

Igbokwe, however, assured supporters of the APC that the party will always triumph “whether the PDP appealed the judgment or not. The most important thing is Ambode’s led administration will continue on the good parts his predecessors followed while in office.”
