Lagos APC members protest Sanwo-Olu’s directive to chairmen on appointment of aides

• Demand sack of party chairman
• Lagos APC denies imposing cabinet nominees on LGs
• Urges members to approach council leadership on aspirations

Some aggrieved members of the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, protested around the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, condemning the order that the new council chairmen should not appoint Secretary to the Local Council and supervisory councillors except they get clearance from the state government.

The protesters demanded the immediate removal of the party’s state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, while imploring President Bola Tinubu to call James Faleke to order.

The aggrieved members of the APC said they were from the 57 local councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.

They maintained that the instruction to the new chairmen would breed imposition that would not reflect the party’s acceptability at the grassroots.

The protesters also queried the rationale behind the order, wondering if that would slow down governance at the grassroots.

MEANWHILE, the Lagos State chapter of the APC has denied the allegation of imposing nominations on any council in the state.

The party’s Spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said that the selection of cabinet members for the 20 councils and the 37 LCDAs would follow laid-down rules and internal party guidelines.

Oladejo, in a statement yesterday, in response to a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly concerning the constitution of council cabinets, stressed that the party at the state level only plays an advisory role, and the local leadership is responsible for nominating candidates after due consultations.

The APC, therefore, advised interested members to approach their council leadership, who are the custodians of the powers to nominate, rather than attributing impositions to the state leadership.

The party also expressed its commitment to constructive dialogue and urged protesters to channel their concerns through official party organs, stressing its confidence in resolving internal issues without external escalation.
