Muslim women, youths decorate churches, distribute Christmas gifts in Kaduna

AS Christians prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, a group of Muslim women and youth have donated Christmas tree and food items to the Church of Christ Evangelical Intercessory Fellowship Ministry, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna South in order to promote peace, love and harmony among the people in the state.

Other gifts such as Christmas lightning, wreathes, stockings, garments, and ornaments 
were also presented to the Church.

The Chairperson of Womanhood School of Health Science Technology, Kaduna, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, led a team of Muslim women to the church leader, to present the Christmas Gift and other presents to the widows that are faced with challenges of feeding their children during the season of Christmas. She also assisted in decorating the Christmas tree with lightning to beautify the church environment.

Hajiya Abubakar said: “I have observed that The Christmas tree is very vital to the life of every Christians in this planet, and that is why I bought it to them, and I donate it to the church only for every member to see it, so as to enable Christian know that Muslims are their brothers, and to join them in celebrating birth of our noble Prophet Isa (Jesus).”

According to her, “Apart from donating Christmas tree, we also decorated the pastors’ houses, we also distribute food items to some widows at the churches and this we do with the aim of assisting our sisters widows with food to cook at the Christmas, because Christmas is a season filled with joy, fun and merriment, a season of Yuletide.”

Abubakar revealed, “I remember the moment I entered that shop at the central market asking them of a Christmas tree, every one was wondering and asking what has a Muslim woman got to do with the Christmas tree. But I know it is important to every Christians in the world, that is why I bought it for my brothers and sisters, to enabled them know that Muslims are their brothers and we wish them happy Christmas and happy New Year.”

Hajiya Abubakar continued, “Last year we gave food to about 500 Christian inmates in the spirit of Christmas and New Year celebration,” adding, “I did that to show love to Christians who are incarcerated.”
“We provided them food in the spirit of togetherness and to join them in celebrating birth of our noble Prophet Isa (AS) or Jesus. I want them to have a taste of food with beef different from what they are offered inside the prison.”

She used the occasion to appeal to Muslims and Christians all over the north to learn to live in peace.
Also, Muslim youths led by Mallam Mohammed Abubakar Ladan, the National Secretary of the Nigerian Association of Skeeters, who visited the cleric said, “We came to decorate the pastors house with our own Christmas tree, so as to strengthen the bond of peace and unity and to extend our hand of friendship to all Christians at this lovely season.”

Mohammed explained, “during Sallah, the pastor always celebrates with us, so it’s high time we joined Christians in celebrating the season.”

In his remarks, the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Yohanna Buru commended the leaders of the Muslim women and remarked, “There is need for Muslims and Christians to live in peace and harmony in view of the fact that both worshiped one God.”

Buru said, “last year we celebrated the Christmas with over 200 Muslims in our church, and even during our 7th year of anniversary this year over 400 Muslims join us from different part of the state.”

The cleric urged Nigerians to “shun ethno-religious, political crisis and support the new government with prayers and also participate in the fight against corruption in the country.”

Buru called on federal and state governments “to provide adequate security during the Christmas at churches, bus station, motor parks, to avert any attack before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.”
