Hon. Shitu Adamu Evuti, the Youth Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, has announced his resignation from the party.
Evuti, who hails from Evuti/Kpada Ward in Lapai Local Government Area, tendered his resignation in a letter dated July 18, 2025, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP.
In a statement confirming his departure, Evuti expressed appreciation to his community and political base. “I am deeply thankful to the good people of my community of Evuti, my immediate constituency Evuti/Kpada Ward, the Lapai Local Government PDP faithfuls, the Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency, and the Niger South Senatorial District (Zone A) for the unwavering support and trust reposed in me over the years,” he said.
He recalled his political journey within the PDP, noting that he was the party’s candidate for the Niger State House of Assembly in 2019. Following the death of Hon. Mohammed Usman Vatsa, Evuti was nominated in 2023 to serve out the late Vatsa’s term as PDP State Youth Leader.
“These opportunities brought me into public prominence through the platform of the PDP,” he noted.
Explaining the reasons for his exit, Evuti cited unresolved internal disputes within the party. “After extensive consultations and wise counsel from my constituents and well-meaning stakeholders, I have decided to resign from the PDP due to unresolved internal disputes at the national level,” he stated.
He announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring: “With a clear conscience and in pursuit of the collective aspirations of my people, I have resolved to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as from today.”
Evuti also extended an olive branch to PDP stakeholders who may have felt slighted during his time in the party. “I ask for forgiveness from any PDP stakeholders in my constituency who may have been offended. I hold no grudges and have forgiven anyone who might have wronged me,” he said.
He thanked God for his journey so far and acknowledged the role of the PDP in his political growth, particularly in Niger State.
