The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, said that there is no crisis in the group.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, said that there is no crisis in the group.

It disclosed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the organisation would soon meet and make decisions on crucial matters aimed at strengthening the organisation.

The NEC meeting thereafter would be followed by the Imeobi Ohanaeze, which would be convened to articulate some far-reaching decisions for the interest of the Igbo nation.

The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, stated this while reacting to reports about the deepening crisis in the organisation.

Ogbonnia quoted the report as claiming that some chieftains of Ohanaeze met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He said: “I was tempted to ignore the statement since most Nigerians are already aware of the mischievous tendencies of the purveyors.

“In the first place, there is no crisis in Ohanaeze under the diplomatic and administrative competence of the Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Amb. Okey Emuchay.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Ohanaeze will soon meet and take decisions on a few crucial matters aimed at strengthening the apex Igbo socio-cultural body. Thereafter, an Imeobi Ohanaeze will be convened to articulate some far-reaching decisions for the interest of the Igbo nation.”

“Unfortunately, for a long time, some scoundrels have been obsessed with a phantom crisis in the Igbo body, a product of their perverted imaginations. The support and solidarity to Ohanaeze over the death of the Igbo Colossus, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, by the Igbo and almost all Nigerians remains our source of strength, unity and inspiration,” he stated

Ogbonnia appealed to those he described as provocateurs, charlatans, meddlesome interlopers and conflict entrepreneurs to desist from desecrating the hallowed name of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

He said they had explored all channels of peace to dissuade Okechukwu Isiguzoro from issuing statements using the hallowed name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to no avail.
