No nation can rise above level of its leadership — Omo-Agege
Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has said that no country or society can rise above the level of its leadership, explaining that quality headship is indispensable in any country as everything rises and falls on the leader.
Omo-Agege said this at the 20th Centre LSD Bi-Annual Leadership Lecture and the graduation ceremony of its students in Abuja.
He added that without effective leadership, people cannot make sustainable, meaningful progress in any organisation.
He also pointed out that to be an effective politician, one needs training, experience (including emotional intelligence), and grit of the visionary type.
He stressed that it becomes imperative for us, as leaders across political, corporate spheres, and civil society, to rise to the occasion.
“This demands a multifaceted approach. Governments, organisations, communities, and individuals all have roles to play. Partnership and cooperation across local, regional, and global levels are essential for sharing knowledge and best practices,” Omo-Agege added.
The Founding Executive Director of the Centre LSD, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, said, “Our official mandate is to promote democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, as well as foster good relationships between Nigeria, the Federal Republic of Germany, and other countries.”
Explaining further, Igbuzor stressed that they have established this with a clear focus on supporting democratic forces. He noted that leading by example is what it’s all about.
He said, “It’s not about standing up on the podium; it’s about what you have done and shown in every section of life.”
On his part, Monday Osasah said the event is not just a celebration of individual academic accomplishments but also a significant milestone in their collective effort to realise a vision of strategic leadership and sustainable development across Africa.
“Today, we are honoured to witness the graduation of 82 students from the 20th set and the matriculation of 156 new students into the school. The ceremony brings the total number of graduands to 2,468, a testament to our sustained efforts in leadership development,” he added.
