The Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reaffirmed its support for Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence.
In a statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the group specifically dismissed claims of abuse of office from some people as not only baseless but fabrications steeped in falsehood.
The group noted that the timing of these allegations was suspicious, coming hours after federal troops under Dr. Matawalle’s guidance successfully neutralized over 40 terrorists in Zamfara and Kebbi states. Ohanaeze Ndigbo believes this suggests retaliation against Dr. Matawalle’s effective measures to restore peace and security.
The statement reads: “We make it clear that the Igbo communities scattered across the 19 states of the Northern region stand in solidarity with Dr. Matawalle. They express gratitude for his tireless efforts in utilizing federal resources to combat the scourge of banditry that threatens our collective well-being.
“In light of this, it is imperative that Dr. Matawalle remains resolute in his focus, disregarding the antics and distractions posed by the unfounded allegations of some opportunists. These accusations are nothing more than booby traps intended to divert him from the noble pursuit of safeguarding the lives of all Nigerians, particularly the Igbo.
“The Igbo communities in the Northern region stand in solidarity with Dr. Matawalle, expressing gratitude for his efforts in combating banditry.”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, therefore urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against such political machinations and recognise Dr. Matawalle’s commendable work.
“We call on all Nigerians to unite in recognizing Dr. Matawalle’s commendable work and ensure that the collective focus remains on supporting those who strive for the security and prosperity of the nation.”
