Govt acquires land for industrial park

WIFE of Imo State Governor, Nkechi Okorocha, says her pet project, She Needs A Roof Project (SNARP), will build many more bungalows for indigent widows and orphans in the state’s 27 local councils in the second phase of the programme.

These would add to the over 152 bungalows built and furnished in the first phase of the project during her husband’s first tenure on the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI) platform.

She told journalists in her office yesterday that the project being executed with the SNARP-generated funds was being commended at home and abroad, urging the media to partner it for success in caring for the indigent ones.

According to her, each of the bungalows cost SNARP about N3 million. Stating that she was touched at the number of persons thrown up in a survey on the people in that category, she disclosed that about 10 individuals, who saw the need for more homes being constructed, sponsored 10 bungalows for the same categories of people.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Government has acquired about 27, 000 hectares of land for a state-of-the-art industrial park in Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta local councils as it pursues its industrialising plans, Governor Rochas Okorocha has disclosed.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Trade and Investment/Industrial Summit in Owerri on Tuesday, Okorocha disclosed that on resumption of office for his second term, he had promised to industrialise the state by floating several industries and thereby creating more jobs.

He noted that the 400mw Egbema power project and other similar projects would be in use very soon to actualise his investment policy, while acknowledging the interest by local and foreign investors, including United States’ Senator Tony Muse, among others.

The governor disclosed that Muse and his investment team would invest in the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport to transform it into a real cargo airport. Also, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Acho Ihim, said the lawmakers have passed the necessary bills to facilitate investments in the state.
