Barely 24 hours after the opposition coalition adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political platform for the 2027 elections to unseat President Bola Tinubu, social media posts from critics, particularly from the camp of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its supporters, have emerged.
Our Correspondent observed that some of the criticisms came from the Special Adviser to Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare; a former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, among others.
The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has supported vocal critics of the ADC by reposting their opinion on X.
In his post, Dare noted that the ADC coalition cannot mirror the APC because the merger that gave birth to the APC was driven by selflessness and national interest, while a serial loser promotes the ADC coalition.
“Now contrast with today’s coalition. The chief promoter is a serial election loser, clutching at what he clearly sees as his last shot at the presidency.
“Unlike Tinubu, he enters the coalition alone — without the backing of his state governor, his region or any meaningful political structure. His ambition is personal, not patriotic. So also that of his many co-travellers,” Dare’s post read in part.
Omokri’s post about the ADC coalition bears a semblance to Dare’s. In his post, Omokri described the members of the coalition as politically displaced persons who gathered because Nigeria denied them top political seats.
“If you look at yesterday’s roadshow, it was just a gathering of former this and ex that. There were no incumbents there, no sitting governor, senator, or representative.
“These men and women gathered together because the people of Nigeria denied them a seat at Aso Rock, the National Assembly, and State Houses across Nigeria,” Omokri noted.
In his remarks, Keyamo opined that the APC had lost nothing despite the ADC coalition, adding that the APC had become stronger since the 2023 elections. In contrast, he said the opposition parties have become weaker and more fragmented.
“Therefore, when the dust settles, you will discover that PDP and the Labour Party have lost something, the ADC has only gained something like a caricature, but the APC has lost absolutely nothing,” Keyamo noted.
An X user posted a picture of a member of the coalition and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, with the caption, “This man you’re seeing here will lose again in 2027.”
Reacting to the tweet, Onanuga noted that 2027 will be Atiku’s final and worst outing as a presidential candidate.
“I concur with the forecast: 2027 will undoubtedly be Atiku’s final and worst outing as a perennial presidential candidate,” Onanuga wrote.
