• Muslim community endorses Aiyedatiwa
• Gov assures of inclusive governance
• PDP accuses Aiyedatiwa of exhibiting desperation traits to win
Ahead of the November 16, 2024 Ondo State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the signing of the peace accord will be held on November 8, 2024.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced this, yesterday, during the fourth quarterly consultative meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Abuja.
The INEC chairman further disclosed that mock accreditation of voters and result upload to the IReV had been scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in 12 polling units across six local councils in the three senatorial districts of the state.
Yakubu said that 64,273 PVCs were collected by voters out of the 89,777 cards delivered to the state.
The INEC boss, while appreciating the CSOs that helped to mobilise registered voters to collect their cards, said that the Commission would upload to its website the cumulative figure of all PVCs collected in each of the 3,933 polling units across the state.
MEANWHILE, the Muslim community in the state, yesterday, promised to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The community, led by prominent Muslim leaders across the state, converged on the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, and hinged its decision on the performance of the governor.
Responding, Aiyedatiwa appreciated the Muslim community for the endorsement and expressed appreciation for their steadfast support and prayers.
The governor, who commended the religious harmony in the state, promised that Muslims across the state would not be deprived of their rights and privileges.
HOWEVER, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter, has accused Aiyedatiwa of exhibiting desperation traits to win the election.
The opposition party said that part of the tactics by the governor was the purported N31 billion contract for the construction of a judicial complex in Akure, the state capital, allegedly awarded to the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the N73,000 minimum wage promised by Aiyedatiwa and the appointment of over 300 aides were part of the ploy towards the poll.
But in a swift response, the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC, Steve Otaloro, described the position of the PDP as misguided and deceptive.
