... Harps on grassroots governance.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ondo State chapter, disclosed over the weekend that it has officially commenced the sale of forms ahead of the forthcoming local council elections scheduled for January 18, 2025.

In a statement, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Oluwafemi Olaleye, announced that the sale of the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms will begin on September 30, 2024, and continue until October 18, 2024.

Olaleye urged interested aspirants to take advantage of this opportunity to secure their candidacy for various council positions across the state.

He also revealed that the party is offering a 50% discount on the nomination form for certain demographics.

According to him, women, Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), and youths aged 30 and below will benefit from the party’s gesture, designed to facilitate their involvement in grassroots governance.

The party said that to promote inclusivity and encourage broader participation in the electoral process, the NNPP has set a flat rate for the Expression of Interest form.

Expressing optimism that the upcoming local government election will allow the NNPP to usher in a new era of governance focused on development, transparency, and accountability, the Publicity Secretary reiterated the party’s commitment to grassroots democracy.

He stated that the NNPP aims to empower a diverse range of candidates who can represent the interests of all segments of society.

He said: “We are excited to open the portal for our candidates. This is a pivotal moment for those who wish to serve their communities and make a meaningful impact in local governance.

“We believe that a truly representative government must include voices from all walks of life. This initiative reflects our dedication to inclusivity and the belief that everyone has a role to play in the governance of our communities.

“We understand that financial barriers can deter many qualified individuals from running for office. By offering these rebates, we aim to empower women, persons living with disabilities, and youths under the age of 30 to participate in our democratic process.

“We encourage all aspiring candidates to take this step toward leadership. Your community needs you, and this is your chance to make a difference.”
