Only a united opposition can dislodge APC, says LP
Promises to rebuild Nigeria
Director General, Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration of the Labour Party (LP), Marcel Ngogbehei, has charged supporters of the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, known as Obidients and the state coordinators of the party to desist from sowing seeds of discord within the Obidient movement, saying it will weaken LP as an opposition party.
Ngogbehei, in his New Year’s message, reminded the party faithful and Obidients in general that only a consolidated and united opposition could dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He urged the LP faithful to remain hopeful and steadfast in their shared purpose, which, he said, would inspire others with the same passion and vision.
“As we usher in this New Year, I am filled with gratitude and hope for the incredible strides we have made together in the quest for a better Nigeria.
“You, the pillars of the Obidient Movement, have shown remarkable resilience, dedication and belief in the vision of a united, equitable and prosperous nation.
“However, I must address a crucial matter: Those who sow seeds of discord within the Obidient movement must pause and have a rethink. Divisions weaken our resolve, dilute our strength and play into the hands of those who have no interest in the people’s welfare. Only a consolidated, highly integrated and united opposition can dislodge the APC from power in 2027,” he said.
The LP chief further charged party members to put aside their differences and focus on the bigger picture, which, according to him, is delivering Nigeria from the grip of inefficiency and restoring it to its rightful path.
“We need every voice, every heart and every thumbprint to achieve this. To the faithful across all states and beyond, I urge you all to keep the fire of hope burning, to remain steadfast in our shared purpose, and to inspire others with the same passion and vision.
“Let us continue to work together, guided by the principles of integrity, equity and justice, as we build momentum for the milestones ahead. The challenges are immense, but our determination is stronger. Let this year be a rallying point for deeper integration, collaboration, and preparation for the journey ahead.
“Together, we are unstoppable. Together, we will build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.
IN another development, Obidient Movement, under the leadership of Dr Yunusa Tanko, has pledged to rebuild Nigeria’s “broken walls” and restore the nation’s prosperity through patriotism, innovation and grassroots mobilisation.
In his New Year’s goodwill message, Tanko called on Nigerians to reflect on the victories and challenges of 2024, while embracing 2025 as a year of transformation and possibilities.
Tanko acknowledged that 2024 posed significant trials for Nigerians, including insecurity, economic instability, high inflation, epileptic power supply and poverty.
However, he urged citizens to use the experiences as fuel for resilience and a renewed determination to reclaim Nigeria’s greatness. Highlighting the potential of Nigeria’s youths, Tanko challenged them to lead innovations, pioneer solutions and showcase Nigeria’s talent globally.
“To the youths, this is your time to put Nigeria on the global map as inventors, creators and problem-solvers,” he said. And to the elders, he emphasised the need to create value and influence positive change, leveraging their experience to boost the economy and national unity.
