Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has charged indigenes of his immediate constituency, Guma local government area, to live exemplary lifestyles worthy of their elevation to higher positions in the state.

Ortom who made the urge Saturday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Gbajimba, during a funeral service held for the deceased wife of his elder brother, late Mrs. Judith Yuaar Robert Ortom, stressed that for God to have elevated him to his present position in the state, he would equally lift his community by impacting positively on it.

He revealed that his administration had paid the contractor handling the road from Daudu to Gbajimba to continue work on the project while funds for other roads in the area would be provided in subsequent budgets.
The governor also appealed to the people of the area to take education seriously so as to sustain their relevance in the present and the future.

He reminded the people that the death of someone was a warning and whistle to those alive to also get prepared to meet their creator by making peace with him.

Ortom, while also speaking at the funeral of the late Augustine Tachia Ge in Ushongo local government area, enjoined the people of the state to support the amnesty programme of his administration to succeed by appealing to those with illegal arms in their possession to surrender them before the deadline of September 30th, 2015, and thereafter expose those who refuse to comply.

He commended the paramount ruler of the area, Chief Ambrose Iyortyer, for leading several youths in the area to surrender their illegal weapons and enjoined other community leaders to emulate him.
The governor further gave reasons for the probing of the previous administration saying it was a response to the request of the people to know why and how the state had been brought to its knees so that the present and future generations could learn from the exercise.

Meanwhile, the governor has expressed the condolences of the government and people of the state on the passage of the matriarch of the Obafemi Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo saying death is irreparable.

Ortom who expressed sadness at the gradual depletion of the ranks of revered elderly Nigerians however, stated that as a Christian, the Bible maintained, “pleasant in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saint,’’ adding that all must one day be reunited with the creator.

The governor recalled that the legacies left by the deceased and her husband, the late Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo in the areas of entrepreneurship, committed service in the legal profession, politics, free education, patriotism and family values will be remembered by the present and future generations.

He maintained that the government and people of Benue State cherished the relationship between the late Senator Joseph Sarwuan Tarka and the late Awolowo and their commitment to a progressive and better country and urged Nigerians to emulate them.
Ortom, therefore, prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and for God to grant her family, the government and people of Ogun State, as well as all Nigerians the fortitude to bear the loss.

To be old does no automatically translate that you are pleasant in God’s sight; rather when you are living a righteous life, then God will see you as a pleasant person to His eyes.
