‘I resigned my membership from the party’

There was a mild drama in Osogbo, Osun State capital, yesterday, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 7, Irewole Local Council, suspended the Chairman, Governing Council of Osun State College of Education (OSCED), Ila-Orangun, Peter Babalola, for alleged anti-party activities.

The party said that Babalola’s suspension was informed by his alleged anti-party activities in the last two years, which it claimed, were capable of putting the ruling party in disrepute.

The letter suspending Babalola, signed by 17-member ward executives of Irewole Ward 7, dated Tuesday, August 27, 2024, was addressed to the state chairman of the PDP, Sunday Bisi.

However, while reacting to the development, Babalola said he resigned his membership from the party.

Babalola, in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Sunday Bisi, said his resolve to quit the party was as a result of personal value consideration and his next political direction.

A copy of the letter obtained by The Guardian reads: “I am writing to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party effective immediately.

“This decision comes after careful reflection and consideration of my values, goals and the political direction I wish to pursue.

“I wish the PDP continued success in its future endeavours and hope for the advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.”
