Oyo State former First Lady and ambassador-designate to Austria, Florence Ajimobi, has dismissed allegations linking her to an alleged plot to induce lawmakers to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by her media office, Ajimobi said the allegations were “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation” aimed at tarnishing her reputation and misleading the public.

The reaction followed separate denials by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, including the Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola and the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who denied involvement in any plot to destabilise the state government or receipt of inducements from political actors.

Oyekola has denied involvement in any alleged plot to impeach Makinde.

He made the clarification on his verified Facebook page, insisting that he was neither invited to nor participated in any meeting aimed at destabilising the state government.

The lawmaker alleged that certain individuals were attempting to sow discord within the House of Assembly and undermine the cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislature.

He further pledged loyalty to the governor, stressing that he would not be involved in any act that could undermine the administration.

The lawmaker had, however, alleged that the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, was offered a House of Representatives ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside financial support by the Olubadan of Ibadanland and former First Lady, Florence Ajimobi.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Ogundoyin, has, however, denied allegations that he received money from APC proxies to facilitate the impeachment of Makinde, describing the claim as false and politically motivated.

He said that no money exchanged hands at any meeting, adding that the rumour was fabricated to tarnish his image and destabilise the state government and the legislature.

Ogundoyin, who stressed that he would never betray the mandate of the people or undermine Makinde’s administration, reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the governor and the ruling party.

On a separate claim linking his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland to political scheming, Ogundoyin clarified that the visit was purely consultative and took place weeks earlier.

He said he met the monarch to inform him of his governorship ambition and seek his blessings.

In the same vein, the APC in Oyo State has dismissed claims of an alleged impeachment plot against Makinde, describing the narrative as a poorly scripted attempt to mislead the public and attract unwarranted sympathy.

In a statement in Ibadan, yesterday, by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC rejected the claims as baseless and lacking credibility.

Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed as false claims that he was involved in a plot to unseat Makinde.

He, therefore, urged the public to disregard the claims and refrain from dragging the Olubadan’s stool into what he described as “dirty politics.”

However, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that Makinde is not relenting in an alleged plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, from the throne.

He stated this during a solidarity visit yesterday to the Olubadan in his private residence in Old Bodija, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The former governor, who insisted that his claims were based on credible information, said he stood firmly by earlier revelations regarding developments surrounding the Ibadan traditional institution.

Meanwhile, Oba Ladoja expressed appreciation to Fayose for raising the alarm over the alleged plot.

He said: “Thank you for the visit. Thank you for alerting us. I thank you very much.”

Oba Ladoja, however, assured that the matter would be handled internally, emphasising the role of elders in resolving disputes within Ibadan.
