PDP drags Almakura to court over alleged sale of state assets

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Nasarawa chapter has dragged the Lafia government to court over plan by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to dispose of inherited State assets.

The prosecuting counsel Ucha Olegede, after filing the case at the state high court 1 in Lafia said that the decision of the party to challenge the government over the proposed sale of public assets was as a result of the outcry of indigenes.

Ulegede noted that the procedure to sell such public assets was not properly followed.

The opposition party is seeking an injunction to stop the governor from further carrying out the process of disposing the assets.

According to the counsel: “we have applied for motion ex-parte to the court’s judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko, restraining the state government from further continuing with the process of selling the assets”.

Ulegede explained that the court has ordered that the respondent be put on notice and the assigned matter would be heard on November 27, 2017.

About a month ago Al-Makura was given a speedy approval by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to dispose off the assets on request by the governor without conducting any public hearing.

The assets are situated in Jos, Kaduna, Lagos, and Abuja.
