PDP, Labour Party, group task Buhari on decisive action

The national leaderships of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) as well as a rights group, Women Arise, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies to be decisive in stemming the wave of killings in parts of the federation.

Besides decrying his alleged indifference, the main opposition PDP enjoined the President to empathise with Nigerians by paying a condolence visit to Benue State over the pogrom that claimed 73 lives.

In a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja, the PDP said it was heart-rending to note that amid the prevailing sombreness in the country, Buhari was busy receiving in Aso Rock some ‘self-serving’ governors from his ruling All Progressives Congress) who came to endorse him for a second term in office at a time when a soothing word and practical action from the presidency would have helped ease the pains and reassure the people.

According to LP’s National Secretary, Kayode Ajulo, people could resolve to defend themselves if the attitude of the President and security agents to the crisis does not significantly change.In a statement, Ajulo regretted that the insurgency feat the current administration had been boasting of has been torn to shreds by the prevailing internal insecurity, which is proving handy for the government owing to its alleged tardiness.

To the President of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Odumakin, in a statement yesterday in Lagos, said the entire situation has become worrisome and totally unsettling. 
   
She lampooned concerned authorities for not doing enough to convince the people that human life means much in this country, since the alleged killers still go about granting interviews and holding press conferences.Odumakin therefore demanded the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
