The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for unity among party leaders and stakeholders while approving the timetable for its congresses, national convention and primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 106th NEC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.

Reading the communiqué to journalists, the National Publicity Secretary of the caretaker committee, Jungudo Mohammed, said the meeting commended the caretaker committee led by Abdur Rahman Mohammed for its efforts in stabilising the party and guiding its affairs during the ongoing transitional period.

According to the communiqué, NEC expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of ward and local government congresses across the country and expressed confidence that the state congresses scheduled for the weekend would be conducted peacefully and in strict compliance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

The committee also approved the conduct of zonal congresses in the coming weeks as part of preparations for the national convention.

NEC further welcomed the recent judgments of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the leadership and authority of the caretaker committee, noting that the rulings had strengthened constitutional processes and stability within the party.

The meeting stressed the urgent need for reconciliation among party members, urging leaders and stakeholders to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and mutual respect rather than litigation.

“In this regard, NEC called on all parties involved in disputes within the party to embrace reconciliation and refrain from pursuing further litigation, particularly any move to proceed to the Supreme Court, in the interest of unity, stability and the future of the party,” the communiqué stated.

As part of efforts to modernise its internal operations, NEC also approved the commencement and expansion of the party’s electronic membership registration to strengthen grassroots participation and enhance transparency in party administration.

The committee reaffirmed preparations for the PDP national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026, during which a new National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected in line with the party’s constitution.

NEC also took note of the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires that notice of election be issued not later than 300 days before the date of the polls.

Consequently, the party approved its timetable for primaries and other pre-election activities in compliance with the INEC schedule.

Under the approved timetable, submission of the party’s register of members to INEC is slated for April 10, 2026, while primaries for State Houses of Assembly will hold on May 2.

Primaries for the National Assembly are scheduled for May 9, followed by governorship primaries on May 16 and the presidential primary on May 23.

NEC also urged all organs, stakeholders and members of the party across the federation to commence necessary preparations and strictly adhere to the approved timelines and statutory provisions guiding the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the committee condemned the attack by hoodlums on members and supporters of the party during the recently conducted congresses in Oyo State, describing the incident as unfortunate and contrary to the democratic values expected in the party’s processes.

The party called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
NEC further urged all leaders, stakeholders and members nationwide to remain united, disciplined and focused while supporting all processes leading to the successful conduct of the remaining congresses and the national convention.

The party also reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, national unity, good governance and the welfare of Nigerians, assuring citizens that the PDP remains a credible platform for responsible leadership and national development.

According to the communiqué, the meeting ended on a note of renewed unity and determination among party leaders and members to strengthen the party and position it for greater national service.
