PDP welcomes Oyo High Court verdict

People's Democratic Party (PDP)

The Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the judgment of the High Court of Oyo State, which affirmed the legality of its National Convention held in Ibadan in November, 2025 and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and give full effect to its outcomes.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party described the verdict delivered by Justice Ladiran Akintola as a vindication of both fact and law.

The court granted all the reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who had approached the court to protect his constitutional right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.

The suit, filed by Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, prayed the court to compel the PDP to conduct its elections as publicly advertised and to direct INEC to honour the decisions reached at the convention.

According to the party, the court had earlier, on November 3, 2025, granted an order permitting the convention to proceed, and renewed the order on November 14, 2025. The convention subsequently held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.
The latest judgment, the PDP noted, affirms and gives final effect to those earlier orders, declaring the convention properly conducted and lawful.

“The party welcomes this judgment as a vindication of both fact and law. It reaffirms the obvious fact that the Ibadan convention was conducted properly, transparently, and in full compliance with the party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

The PDP commended the court for what it described as courage and fidelity to justice, reiterating its faith in the judiciary as an independent arbiter and the last hope of the ordinary citizen.
It also expressed confidence that appellate courts, if called upon, would uphold the law without fear or favour, affection or ill will.

The development is expected to further shape ongoing legal and political contestations surrounding the party’s leadership and internal processes ahead of future electoral activities.
