Plateau affirms readiness of 4,949 polling units for today’s council poll
Chairman of Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Plangji Cishak, has assured of the body’s preparedness for today’s local council elections.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, in Jos, Cishak said about 300 observers had indicated interest in and been accredited for the exercise.
He added that 21,000 ad hoc staff had been recruited and trained for the poll, appreciating the state government, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant stakeholders.
According to the PLASIEC boss, there are 4,949 polling units across the 17 council areas of the state, reiterating that 11 political parties are actively participating in the process.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, has assured citizens of the force’s readiness for peaceful conduct.
Consequently, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, yesterday, declared a half-working day to enable public servants to participate in the poll.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Samuel Jatau, who conveyed the announcement in a statement, added that the governor had declared today as a work-free day.
