Pro-chancellor of the University of Calabar, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, has declared her intention to replace incumbent Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial district, Senator T. A. Orji, stressing that her twelve years legislative experience makes it imperative.

However, in a swift response over the telephone, Orji, who is the former Abia State governor, said Nwaogu is not his match, arguing that having published his scorecard for all to see after just three years in the Senate, Nwaogu should start from publishing her legacies to merit comparison.

“I instituted a scholarship scheme in the Senatorial zone, which I have sustained and would continue to sustain. I established an eye centre with resident medical doctor to ensure my people see what I am doing, to guarantee their living wellbeing. Those are just two items on my scorecard.

“Let the woman mention one thing she did while in the Senate for eight years. She is daydreaming, the Senate is no longer for money making. Any person who derogates equity cannot go far. The singsong in Abia State today is equity and fair play,” Orji said.

Nwaogu had while announcing her acceptance to contest the Senate seat in 2019, claimed that she was coming in answer to the call and support by the people, stressing that her new party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no place for zoning.

She declared: “I am going back to the Senate on restoration mission, I am not going again as a fresher, but to bring to my constituents more dividends of democracy. My past records of effective representation attest to my capacity and capability.”
