• Dare, Folarin, others declare Oyo APC congresses peaceful

A South-West group in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), APC Progressives Minds, has urged all the party faithful to support the national chairmanship aspiration of Malam Saliu Mustapha in the coming national convention.

The group, during a media parley in Ibadan, yesterday, said Malam Mustapha, a dedicated loyalists of the party from Kwara State in the North Central, is fit with his youthful energy to drive APC to victory in the next general election.

Oyo State Co-ordinator of the group, Malam Adekunle Abass Akande, who briefed journalists after the parley, said: “We are here to express and declare our sincere support for Malam Mustapha to become the national chairman of APC as a progressive mind of the party.”

In another development, a pro-Tinubu group, South-West Agenda for 2023 Presidency (SWAGA), has taken the APC to court, calling for outright annulment of the July 31, 2021 ward congress in Ekiti State.

In a suit filed at the Federal High Court, Ekiti State Division, the group sought an interlocutory injunction stopping the conduct of the local council congress or an order declaring the outcome illegal.

BUT stakeholders in Oyo State Chapter of APC have declared the local council congresses held on Saturday as peaceful and properly organised to reposition the party to reclaim power in 2023.

The stakeholders, which include the Minister of Youths, Sports and Development, Sunday Dare; Chairman of Local Council Congresses of the party, Chief Hillary Amodu; Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content and lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Teslim Folarin; the state’s Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abdul Azeez Olatunde and others, said the congresses had actually repositioned the party and made it more united and ready to wrest power from Governor Seyi Makinde and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

In a statement yesterday, Dare lauded the peaceful exercise in Ogbomoso’s five local councils.

He said the APC members in Ogbomoso showed the spirit of true progressives in the congress.

RELATEDLY, the Osun Progressives, a caucus of the ruling APC has claimed it won 27 local councils out of the 31 in the state at the just concluded congress of the party.

Chairman of the group, Reverend Adelowo Adebiyi, stated this yesterday in a statement made available to The Guardian.

He expressed happiness at the large turnout of members of the party, describing it as impressive.
