South-West PDP approves interim structures in Ekiti

My govt has spent N130b to fix Ekiti roads in one year, says Oyebanji

The South-West zone of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded the efforts of the outgone Ekiti State Caretaker Committee led by Dare Adeleke, commending its dedication and tireless efforts in repositioning the party in the state.

In a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, and signed by the Zonal Secretary, Olumuyiwa Obanewa, the PDP said the committee’s stewardship laid a solid foundation upon which the party could now build and consolidate ahead of future elections.

The statement read in part: “In accordance with the PDP’s constitution, and concurrence with the National Working Committee (NWC) and South-West PDP governors, the zonal working committee, at its meeting on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, approved the appointment of a three-member interim administrative team to oversee the affairs of the PDP in Ekiti State. The appointed administrators include Sanya Atofarati as Chairman, Adeola Ogunrinde (member) and Lanre Fajuyi (Secretary).”

To facilitate an independent and comprehensive assessment of the current state of the party in Ekiti, the statement further announced the constitution of a five-member fact-finding committee tasked with compiling a detailed report for submission to the NWC.

The interim administrators were directed to assume office immediately and begin groundwork in preparation for the arrival of the national interface committee recently set up by the NWC, which is expected to engage stakeholders across the state in a broad reconciliation process aimed at resolving lingering internal disputes.

MEANWHILE, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, yesterday, declared that N130 billion had been spent on the construction and maintenance of roads, representing the entire budget of the state three years ago.

The governor, however, challenged the party’s executives to embark on an inspection tour of the entire state to see for themselves what his government had done and how he had represented them well.

A statement by the state’s Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Segun Dipe, quoted Oyebanji as having said this on Monday at the party’s secretariat to inform the leadership of his desire to contest for a second term.

The governor also spoke about the efforts of his administration in the area of welfare and security, which he said had translated to peaceful cohabitation by the people.

Oyebanji said that his relationship with his predecessors was very cordial, saying: “In Ekiti APC, the hierarchy remains such that Otunba Adebayo is at the helm, followed by Fayemi, while I am next on the ladder. You can see that I don’t call meetings of the party to Ikogosi-Ekiti, my country home. We either meet at Iyin-Ekiti, the country home of Adebayo or Isan-Ekiti, the country home of Fayemi. May be I will start holding party meetings at Ikogosi-Ekiti when I eventually vacate office, but not now when I still have those two as my leaders.”
