South-West PDP opts for consensus in electing leaders

The South-West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of its zonal congress, has unanimously opted for a consensus approach to select its next leaders, ditching the traditional polling method.

The decision was reached after a zonal executive meeting held, yesterday, at the Governor’s Lodge, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.The PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) and former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Taofeek Arapaja, who briefed journalists, said the essence of the meeting was to decide the modalities to choose the next executive members of the zone.

According to Arapaja, the consensus method will be used to choose the next leadership of the zone, noting that the decision is a strategic move to promote unity and cohesion within the party.

He said that by adopting a consensus approach, the party aims to avoid the divisions and conflicts that often accompany competitive elections, adding that the move is a way of strengthening the party’s position in the region ahead of future elections and ensuring a united leadership.
