Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during a meeting titled “Implementing the Whistle-Blowing Policy in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges, and the Way Forward,” Edun noted the Federal Government’s expectations for the policy.
He stressed the need for public support to ensure its effectiveness in promoting transparency and accountability.
Edun said that a successful whistleblowing policy involves receiving credible reports, conducting thorough investigations, and taking appropriate actions to ensure legal compliance.

“The policy does provide mechanisms for protection and it is our duty to uphold these provisions and support those who come forward in the interest of the public,” the minister said.
“Those who are public-spirited, brave, courageous, committed, and determined to do the right thing must, should, and will be protected.
“It’s a fact that a successful whistleblowing policy involves receiving verifiable reports, conducting thorough investigations to authenticate them, and taking appropriate action to enforce compliance with the law.”
He stressed that the policy is a crucial part of the government’s strategy to ensure integrity within the nation’s public institutions.
The policy aims to hold public institutions accountable to Nigerians, empowering citizens to act as watchdogs over public finances and resources.
