President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Borno State to express condolences and evaluate the impact of the recent floods in Maiduguri.

The Federal Government (FG) had a few days ago said it aims to rebound from the flooding that hit Borno State stronger and more resilient than ever.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said this on behalf of the FG following his visit to Maiduguri, the state capital, last Wednesday.

“On Wednesday, I was in Maiduguri, Borno State, which was hit by flooding,” Tunji-Ojo wrote in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday morning.

“As a responsive government, President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences and also reinstated commitment to the restoration of normalcy.

“Despite the travail, I have seen the people show strength and fortitude. Our goal is to rebound from this disaster stronger and more resilient than ever.”

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), meanwhile, has deployed more personnel to join the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) search and rescue team in Maiduguri following massive floods as the Alau Dam broke its banks.

Activating the emergency response, the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, said her team would assist in the ongoing rescue of residents trapped in their homes by the devastating flood in the city.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State also on Monday flagged off the distribution of relief supplies to residents of Maiduguri.

The relief package consists of a 25 kg bag of rice, a carton of pasta, and a cash amount of N10,000 to those affected by the severe flooding in Maiduguri, who are currently sheltered in approximately 36 camps.
