Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in office in 2027, citing his administration’s achievements over the past two years as a strong motivation for Nigerians to re-elect him.
Aliyu made the statement on Thursday at the Government House in Katsina during the Northwest Zone Town Hall Meeting on the amendment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) constitution.
Represented by his deputy, Idris Mohammed Gobir, the governor said President Tinubu’s performance was being recognized both locally and internationally, noting that “by 2027, God willing, President Bola Tinubu will be sworn in as the next president of Nigeria.”
He dismissed criticisms from opposition parties, accusing them of selectively condemning government policies while ignoring the administration’s notable successes.
“The opposition likes to stay silent when Tinubu’s administration records achievements but rushes to criticize whenever a policy doesn’t favor them,” he said.
“We should not mind the opposition, especially those sponsoring condemnations and criticisms on social media.”
Aliyu described the opposition as weakened and disorganized, alleging that many of their current efforts are limited to online propaganda. He added that Tinubu’s leadership has earned growing respect from the international community.
“I visited one of the embassies recently, and the Ambassador told me, ‘Congratulations. We have seen where your country is heading, and we believe we see a bright future for Nigeria,’” he said.
The governor also commended the National Assembly for its continued support of the Tinubu administration, noting that such collaboration has helped the government achieve its development goals since 2023.
According to him, “The APC is forging ahead and making Nigeria a better place for all. What President Tinubu and the APC have done for this country will be remembered for many years to come.”
Host governor, Dr. Dikko Radda, said reviewing the APC constitution had become imperative in light of the changing dynamics of Nigeria’s political environment.
He said the amendment should address issues such as granting former governors membership of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), ensuring quality representation for women and persons with disabilities, and strengthening internal party democracy.
Radda assured the Constitution Amendment Committee of the full support of his administration and other APC-led governments in the region to ensure the success of its mandate.
During the public hearing, several groups submitted memoranda proposing specific amendments to the party’s constitution.
A former deputy governor of the state, Tukur Jikamshi, in his presentation, advocated for the inclusion of former deputy governors in the party’s NEC to enhance representation and experience sharing within the party’s leadership structure.
