MEDIA Aide to Governor Wike, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu said yesterday that testimonies at the tribunal by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who conducted the Rivers State governorship election that the election was peaceful and credible has confirmed the electoral success of Governor Wike.
In a statement yesterday, Nwakaudu noted that the weight of the evidence adduced by the INEC Electoral Officers and Presiding Officers at the tribunal have helped to throw more light on the success of the election and the mandate Governor Wike got from the people.
According to him: “All the INEC officials who have testified so far directly conducted the election in five local government areas spread across the three senatorial districts of Rivers State.
All of them stated while being led in evidence and during cross examination that they used both the card readers and the manual process to accredit voters for the April 11, 2015 governorship election in the state.
They explained in clear terms that the election was peaceful, free, fair and credible. They all noted that no armed soldier came to their polling units and that they conducted the elections in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
The Media Assistant noted that the victory of Governor Wike at the polls was no fluke as the people stood up for development, experience and the promotion of the ideals of the Niger Delta.
He noted that the official reports after the election from the relevant security agencies prove that the election was peaceful and credible. It will be recalled that INEC has opened its defense at the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal with Electoral Officers and Presiding Officers from Obio /Akpor, Akuku Toru, Bonny, Tai and Oyigbo Local Government Areas testifying that the Election was peaceful, credible and conducted in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
