Ughelli South group pledges support for APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, yesterday, passed an explicit vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

Also, the Chairman of Ughelli South Political Colonels, John Evwenode, reaffirmed his group’s commitment to the APC, pledging to deliver total victory for the party in Ughelli South during the 2027 general elections

The endorsement, which took place during a well-attended APC Stakeholders Meeting at Government House, Asaba, brought together top leaders of the party, including serving and former federal and state lawmakers, commissioners, local council chairmen, and party chiefs, as well as political heavyweights across Delta’s three senatorial districts.

The motion for the confidence vote was moved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and seconded by Victor Ochei, former Speaker of the House of Assembly.

In moving the motion, Keyamo praised Tinubu’s “bold reforms and transformative leadership”, citing the removal of petrol subsidy as a responsible policy decision that redirected billions into critical national infrastructure.

“Just two days ago, the President approved $1 billion for resuscitation of the Warri port and others.

He also mentioned other key national projects, including the Lagos/Calabar coastal road and the rebuilding of Lagos Airport. These are direct results of subsidy removal savings. The President has proven to be a prudent manager and visionary leader,” Keyamo said.

He also commended Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and for the massive infrastructural development across the state.

Keyamo, therefore, moved that “Delta APC passes a vote of confidence in Tinubu and Oborevwori, and adopts them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general election.

Seconding the motion, which was unanimously adopted, Ochei hailed Tinubu and Oborevwori’s inclusive governance and developmental impact across Nigeria and Delta, respectively, adding that “the people of Delta and the South-South stand firmly behind the President and the governor for their vision for a renewed Nigeria.

In his remarks, Oborevwori expressed deep gratitude to the APC stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and Tinubu, pledging to continue delivering on his development agenda for the state.

Evwenode made the declaration when he led members of the Political Colonels on a familiarisation visit to the Chairman of Delta APC, Omeni Sobotie, at the party’s state secretariat in Asaba.

He said the visit was to formally introduce the group to the state leadership and to demonstrate its readiness to work in harmony with the party’s structures across all levels.

“We are here today to identify with the state leadership of our great party and to assure you of our total loyalty,” Evwenode said. “The Ughelli South Political Colonels are committed to the growth, unity and victory of the APC at all levels.”

According to him, the group has commenced grassroots mobilisation to ensure a landslide victory for the APC in Ughelli South.

“We have resolved to go back to our local council and strengthen our grassroots structure in line with your directive, sir. Our mission is simple; to deliver Ughelli South 100 per cent for the APC come 2027,” he added.

Responding, Sobotie commended the group for its dedication and charged the leaders to remain united and open to new members, describing unity as the party’s greatest asset ahead of the next elections.
