We will ensure credible polls in Kogi, Bayelsa, says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters in Bayelsa and Kogi states that the forthcoming gubernatorial elections will be free, fair and credible and will reflect the people’s choices.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters in Bayelsa and Kogi states that the forthcoming gubernatorial elections will be free, fair and credible and will reflect the people’s choices.

Chairman of the commission, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, gave the assurance yesterday in Abuja at the 2019 post-election review meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).The Bayelsa and Kogi Governorship elections are scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2019.

Mahmood, however, expressed concern over the conduct of politicians in the states, stating that the history of political violence resulted in the gubernatorial elections being declared inconclusive in both states in 2015.He said the Commission was concerned about the safety of its personnel, property and the sanctity of the nation’s electoral process.
