Why Enugu APC primaries have been peaceful – Committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly Primary Election Committee has said that transformations brought into the governance by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah facilitated peaceful party primaries in the state.

It stated that so far, there had not been reports of ugly incidents, stressing that party members and delegates have continued to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.

Chairman of the Party’s National Assembly Primary in the state, Funkekeme Solomon, stated while declaring the results of the election that Enugu, “remains a true case of emulation by other APC states”.

“We are satisfied with the conduct of the primaries. We didn’t encounter any rancorous situation”, he said

Announcing the results, he said that two serving Senators, Kelvin Chukwu and Osita Ngwu, won the Senatorial primaries of the party held in Enugu East and Enugu West Senatorial constituencies, respectively.

He also declared Ikeje Asogwa as the winner of the primary for the Enugu North Senatorial seat.

He stated that the committee was happy to have concluded the process.

“We have received all results. The members have peacefully conducted themselves and we believe the outcome of the exercise will strengthen all other primaries and the outcome of the general elections “, he stated.

Solomon announced that Ngwu, who was the sole candidate for Enugu West, secured 70,015 votes to emerge as the party’s candidate.

He also announced that Kelvin Chukwu pillows 111, 743 votes to beat Nnaji Sharon, who secured 482 votes for Enugu East Senatorial seat.

Solomon further said that four aspirants’ views for Enugu North Senatorial seat, stressing that Ikeje Asogwa polled 125,089 votes to beat Eze Chinazo (782 votes); Edith Ugwuanyi (876 votes) and Charles Ugwuanyi (736 votes)

He commended Governor Mbah for the transformation that gave rise to the peaceful conduct of the primary and urged those who could not make the exercise to support the governor and those who emerged for the growth of the party.

State Party Chairman, Martin Chukwunwike, stated that the conduct of the primaries so far had been smooth and transparent.

He thanked the committee for a painstaking effort that culminated in the peaceful primary, stressing that the party would do all it could to not violate the electoral act.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Senator Ngwu thanked Governor Mbah for providing exceptional leadership and a platform for a seamless process

” We will remain forever grateful to the governor. The governor has moved the state up to the first three in the country and there is nothing to repay him than to support him”, he said, and praised the committee and party leadership for a thorough job.
