Why Mark-led ADC exco must be proactive – Opposition chieftain

ADC chieftain, Farah Dagogo

A chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Farah Dagogo has called on the newly elected National Executive Committee of the party led by Senator David Mark, to act decisively in meeting Nigerians’ growing expectations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dagogo made the call on the sidelines of the party’s national convention in Abuja, where Mark was elected substantive National Chairman after securing 1,471 votes.

While congratulating the new leadership, the former lawmaker stressed that the moment demands urgency, focus, and a clear commitment to rebuilding public confidence in governance.

He described Mark as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished Senate Presidents, noting that his experience and track record place him in a strong position to guide the party.

However, he emphasized that the responsibility now goes beyond personal credentials, as the leadership must collectively rise to the challenge of offering a credible and effective opposition.

According to Dagogo, the new executive carries the hopes of millions of Nigerians grappling with economic hardship, insecurity, and governance challenges.

He expressed confidence that, with a team of experienced figures, the ADC can position itself as a viable alternative capable of delivering stability, security, and national prosperity.

“To whom much support, trust, and goodwill are given, much more is expected in return,” he said, adding that Nigerians are increasingly looking to the ADC as a platform for meaningful change.

The convention also featured a constitutional amendment overwhelmingly approved by delegates, with 1,471 out of 1,576 accredited voters supporting the move, representing a 94 per cent approval.

Among prominent figures present were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal and Rauf Aregbesola, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.
