The Federal Government has commenced implementation and enforcement of the Survey Coordination Act of 1962 as amended to strengthen the national security architecture and enhance infrastructure development.

Surveyor General of the Federation, Abudulganiyu Adebomehin, stated this in a meeting with a team from Polaris Digital Tech Ltd and Google representative headed by Niyi Okuboyejo at the Survey House in Abuja.

Adebomehin, represented by the Head, Survey Coordination Department, Semiu Ayinde, said this has become imperative to position other critical assets, they would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute violators of the 1962 Act.

He also explained that they deemed it fit to have a meeting with the two foreign firms because contracts have been awarded to them for the street view mapping of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and states of the country.

“The act stipulates supervision of surveying and mapping activities by the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF). These activities are of paramount importance to security matters, while data collected would be assessed and processed,” he remarked.

Also, Head of the Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Azeez Afeez, said web and mobile mappings and other related forms are the products of these activities for raw data and information. Afeex said those will be deposited with OSGoF, the repository of geospatial data in the country.
