The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) plans to enhance its visibility and elevate standards of quantity surveying practice in the country.

President of the institute, Kene Nwekwe, who stated this at the unveiling of the NIQS Resource Centre in Abuja, stressed the need to utilise its potential, embrace the opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.

Nzekwe observed that the resource centre is designed to serve as a training centre for 30 participants and act as a hub for knowledge and information, as well as provide members and the public with access to industry trends, research papers, and professional development resources.

He said: “It is a turning point in our drive to ensure financial sustainability. This is a testament to our institute’s unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and advancement of the quantity surveying profession in Nigeria. The establishment of this state-of-the-art resource centre is a strategic initiative aimed at multiple objectives.”

Nzekwe stated that the centre is expected to generate additional revenue for the institute through various means, including hosting events, training programmes, and consultancy services.

Also, a past president, Mercy Iyortyer, commended the current leadership for bringing the project to fruition, saying it marks a significant milestone in the history of the profession.

She observed that the centre is not about a physical space, but a statement of dedication to professional growth, innovation, and leadership in quantity surveying. “The resource centre will help to propel our profession to new heights, making a significant impact on the construction industry and the broader economy,” Iyortyer added.

In his remarks, Ola Garba stressed the critical role of data and professionalism in reshaping Nigeria’s construction landscape. He said: “This facility will serve not only as a hub for professionals but also as a platform for gathering essential data to shape policy and rectify misconceptions about Nigeria’s housing and infrastructure needs.”
