Ogun earmarks N22bn for road construction in 2015

GOING by the budgetary allocation for road works in the current financial year, the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure will be spending over N22billion on capital expenditure, which covers road projects throughout the state.

Similarly, the ministry may be spending about N339 million on recurrent expenditure in the same year.

The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, an architect, stated this while presenting the Ministry’s year 2015 budget before members of Finance and Appropriation Committee of the State House of Assembly in Abeokuta.

Adegbite disclosed that, out of the proposed capital expenditure, an asphalt plant would be established and located around Sagamu Interchange. This, he said, would ensure easy access of the plant’s product to the three senatorial districts of the state.

The asphalt plant, he said would provide the asphalt needed to construct roads in the state rather than buying from marketers as being done now.

The Commissioner also said the Ministry proposes to construct additional 350Km of durable asphalt roads in major towns across the state while the nineteen on- going roads would be completed within the year.

Aside from road construction, Adegbite said the Ministry would provide the Vehicle Inspection Offices with appropriate vehicle and equipment to improve on the revenue generating capacity of the officers while the State Fire Services Unit would also be empowered to be more efficient.

The Chairman of Finance and Appropriation Committee, Akanbi Bankole, called for equal spread of projects across the twenty-six constituencies in the state for even growth.
