Engineers task Army on professionalism

Desirous of restoring the glory of engineering profession, the Chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Apapa Branch, Ombugadu Garba has reinstated the commitment of the society to upholding high standards of engineering practice in the country.

He stated this during a visit to Lotus Plastics Limited, in Agbara, Ogun State. Garba who led a team of engineers to the company said the visit was one of the society’s core values.

According to him, the current NSE President, Otis Anyaeji is committed to ensuring that high standards of engineering practice in Nigeria are sustained.

He said: “ one of the ways to do this is by taking frequent visits to industries to observe firsthand what they are doing.   “To see whether what they are doing is in compliance with engineering standards. Where they have fallen short, we advise them as professional colleagues and see how they can improve.

“If they have any challenges with their operations or products, maybe equipment breakdown or challenges designing a new model, we can come in to help them and see how we can make our input.”

In a related development, The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Apapa Branch has expressed its readiness to assist Engineers within the Nigerian Armed Forces become full-fledged members of the society and attain the highest level of professional competence in the profession.

Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Apapa Branch, Ombugadu Garba stated this during an Industrial Visit to the 15 Field Engineer Regiment, in Badagry, Lagos State recently.

Garba assured the soldiers of the society readiness to assist with all processes of applications and the various steps involve in becoming fully registered members of the society.

Responding on behalf of the Commanding Officer Major Alex Ugbor, Captain Mark Dingba thanked the NSE delegation and promised to build a stronger synergy between the unit and the NSE.

He noted that the visit has broaden the knowledge of the officers and help clarify issues involves in becoming fully registered engineers.

Meanwhile, the newly constituted executives officers of the Ikeja Branch have been urged to do more in thinking towards innovative ideas that would move the association forward.

Managing Director of Xerox HS Limited, Femi Okunade, an engineer who gave the charge at the Investiture Ceremony for the 12th Branch Chairman and other executive officers for the 2016/2017 held Ogba, Lagos,  said the new officers must demonstrate the brilliant capacity and capability of Nigeria Engineers who are noted for professionalism and high-quality assurance in job delivery.

Okunade stated that the way to outshine their contemporaries was to explore the tremendous unharnessed opportunities of its members, been innovative in taking care of any crisis and demonstrate leadership direction, which is top-down and never down top.

He commended the out-gone executive led by Adeolu Ogundare for the spirit of completion instilled into the branch adding that the new executive must not depart from the path of progressive ideas initiated and executed for the uplift of the institution and Nigeria infrastructural landscape.
