The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has urged its newly inducted fellows to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethics.
The society’s leadership also reminded the fellows that the NSE reserves the right to withdraw its fellowship from any member whose conduct brings disrepute to the profession.
NSE President, Margaret Oguntala, gave the charge at the conferment of fellowship award on 261 engineers recognised for their contributions to the profession and national development in Abuja.
She noted that the conferment is a celebration of distinction, achievement, and responsibility, emphasising that the honour was not only a reward but also a call to higher service.
Oguntala reaffirmed the critical role of engineers in shaping Nigeria’s future, addressing persistent infrastructure challenges in energy, transportation, housing, and public services.
The NSE president disclosed that ongoing partnerships with stakeholders in both public and private sectors are designed to foster innovation in areas such as agricultural entrepreneurship, vocational training, and digital technologies.
According to her, the ongoing efforts will build engineering capacity and inspire leadership within the profession, as well as reinforce its role as a key partner in national development.
She said, “The elevation is in recognition of their outstanding professional accomplishments and commitment to the advancement of engineering and technological development of our dear country.”
Chairman of the NSE board of fellows, Kamila Maliki, commended the new fellows for their commitment, professional integrity and dedication to engineering excellence.
MEANWHILE, the NSE president has said that collaboration and professional unity are essential towards advancing engineering standards and regulatory compliance in the country.
Oguntala, who spoke at the 33rd Engineering Assembly, entitled: ‘Advancing quality engineering services and businesses in Nigeria-professional compliance and remuneration’, reaffirmed the support of the society for the Council of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to the growth and development of the engineering profession.
“We will continue to support COREN in all its laudable initiatives that promote excellence, regulation, and national development.”
