Experts task female surveyors on professional growth


To ensure competence and competitiveness in their chosen career, female quantity surveyors have tasked on professional growth that will guarantee value for money to their clients and the society.

Chairperson of The Women Association of Quantity Surveyors in Nigeria (WAQSM), Aishatu Mohammed, who led the call during her investiture in Abuja, said the association has put measures in place to strengthen female surveyors in the country in line with professional best practices.

She stressed that the association will also chart a new course for female quantity surveyors in line with the vision of the globally recognised professional quantity surveying body.

According to her, female professionals have the daunting task of maintaining balance on several fronts, adding, that the emerging situation has continued to throw up more challenges for them.


She therefore, urged its members to create atmosphere of synergy and respect for diverse views to ensure successful development of all women in their chosen business.

On her part, the immediate past chairperson of the association, Aderonke Oyelami called for inclusivity in the global industry, stressing that it has hindered Nigerian professional women from reaching the peak of their careers.

The key objective of the association, she said, is to encourage more women quantity surveyors to aspire to greater professional and recognition by becoming resource persons, thereby building capacity and boosting personal morale.

Also, the Chairman of investiture, Prof. Abdullahi Bala 0f Federal University of Technology, Minna, highlighted the importance of women in built environment and called on quantity surveyors to contribute to the growth of construction industry.

He said: “women have now progressed to the appointment where they are equal partners, not only in terms of number of students in class, but also in terms of quality of academic performance.

“Carrying out the task of managing cost and value is daunting in itself. However, when the professional quantity surveyor is a woman, the situation becomes even more complicated.  Life balance comes to play”, he added.
