The International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), Nigeria Chapter, has urged professionals in the sector to benchmark their operations against international standards to enhance growth and credibility in Nigeria’s real estate industry.
Speaking at the yearly general meeting and induction of 20 new members in Lagos, the chapter’s President, Akin Opatola, charged practitioners to uphold transparency, adhere to the code of practice, engage in quality advocacy, and contribute actively to leadership and sectoral growth.
He added that FIABCI offers a platform for peer learning, mentorship, and collaboration on global initiatives. Highlighting the success of the FIABCI World Congress recently hosted in Lagos, Opatola noted that the event showcased the city’s safety, infrastructure, and smart real estate projects.
According to him, the influx of foreigners and Nigerians in the diaspora during the period confirmed the country’s potential as an attractive investment destination.
He also disclosed that FIABCI Nigeria’s partnership with the Taiwan Mission was aimed at drawing lessons from the Asian country’s architectural models, project financing, and public-private partnerships, which have sustained rapid infrastructural growth for decades.
Taiwan’s Representative in Nigeria, Andy Yih-Ping Liu, stressed that Nigeria’s large population and abundant resources position it for strong real estate-driven economic growth.
He called for stricter adherence to building regulations, city planning, and the use of quality materials. “Maybe you have to look at the way estates and commercial buildings are planned, combining transport systems with housing to create livable environments. Taiwan can share its experience in ensuring strong, sustainable structures,” he said.
President of FIABCI Africa and Near East Region, Adeniji Adele, said hosting the World Congress, which attracted over 400 delegates from 65 countries, placed Nigeria and Africa firmly on the global real estate map. He urged FIABCI Nigeria to consolidate on the visibility gained and deepen collaboration with government and private sector stakeholders.
FIABCI World President, Antonio Campagnoli, commended the Nigeria chapter for its role in advancing the federation’s global growth and reiterated the need for members to remain committed to the ethical standards guiding the profession.
In her presentation, “Building Beyond You: Creating Structures, Processes and Legacies in Business,” Tolu Dima-Okojie advised practitioners to build sustainable institutions that outlive individuals, attract partnerships, and preserve legacies for future generations.
