We are aware that low submission of building plans in Ojo and its environs is due to many challenges that include global acquisition, title documents and land regularisation issues, issues of excised villages, layout approval and development guide plan. All of these would soon be addressed.

CONCERNED about the problems associated with planning issues in Lagos state, the State’s Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has urged residents in the state to join hands with the government on planning regulations.

The authority said there was need for joint efforts both from the government and the people living in the state to deliver a livable city.

This was the highlight of a stakeholders’ meeting held last week, in Ojo Local Government Area (LGA), on the imperative of sustaining urban development. The parley was organised by LASPPPA.

With a theme, “Keying into Benefits of City Development for Urban Sustainability”, the discourse focused on the protection and safeguarding of the environment in relation to physical development, planning laws and regulations.

In attendance were representatives of Community Development Associations (CDAs), real estate practitioners, landowners, traditional rulers, professionals, in the built environment among others.

Speaking on the importance of the gathering, General Manager, LASPPPA, Mr. Rotimi Toyin Abdul, stated that much could not be achieved without support and collaboration of the stakeholders in physical development.

According to Abdul, the event was part of an initiative of the government to seek collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that government’s policies, activities, law and regulations on physical planning and development issues are deliberated upon to ensure a move towards the sustainable and livable environment.

He stated that it is time to ensure total compliance to planning laws and regulations, saying procrastination to do the needful can no longer be allowed. “Let us learn and build in conformity with physical development plans’ law and regulations. We cannot continue to procrastinate as delay could be dangerous”, he warned.

Unfolding government’s efforts to expedite development permit in the state, the general manager stated that 20 District Offices were created across the state, with Ojo local government included.

Besides, to ensure easy retrieval of the development plan, the agency is working out a software code known as “LASPPPA Soft”, aiming at detailing recording of development permit. This is in addition to the ease complication of approved building plans for gazeting, in collaboration with the Physical Planning Research and statistics Department.
